Our journey with Nick began 4 years ago over a Zoom call for a potential scholarship at Rugby educational institution for our son, Levi. Nick was instrumental in the beginning and has been there ever since. The relationship Nick has forged with our son, taking the time to understand him as an individual, has opened a pathway for Levi to excel in what he loves most: playing cricket. Nick is not just a coach. He is a person who genuinely cares. He takes the time to connect with Levi on a weekly basis, checking in on him, not only about cricket but also about every aspect of his life. He knows every intricate detail about my son’s life, from his educational institution marks to his relationships. There is not a thing that passes by that Nick does not know. He takes an interest in what is always best for Levi and is always there to guide him. His generosity in giving of his time is enormous. He is never too busy to take a call, answer a message or to reassure a crazy, worried parent. The passion for what Nick does is unimaginable. His will for the growth of others is unparalleled and his knowledge and devotion to sport and creating sportsmen and women who are not only brilliant at what they do but also to behave with a very high level of integrity. It has been an honour to work side-by side with this incredible individual. As much as we are sad to see him move on to fulfil his own dreams, we know Nick will be a part of our lives forever, following our sons every move, as usual!!! Lisa Gekis, Parent
Our family have made the move from South Africa to the UK through Nick Tester’s help and guidance. Immigration is a massive move for any family and Nick was the person we communicated throughout the whole process. We had the opportunity to work closely with Nick from start to end, and, during this time, we were continually impressed by his skills, professionalism, and dedication to the whole process. In his role as the Head of Co-curricular Recruitment at Rugby educational institution ,he demonstrated exceptional kindness and helpfulness on top of his abundant knowledge. He always answered our non-stop questions with answers that made us trust and believe our expectations. He always met the promised deadlines and communicated if certain deadlines could not be met. Once we immigrated, Nick has continually been of assistance to us. We always feel that we are able to call him at any time if we might have a query or looking for a solution. He has really been of so much help to our family and we will be forever grateful for this. He would honestly be an asset to any organisation who takes him on The Strydom Family
Nick Tester has been such an important person in my development, in and outside of cricket. He really understood the situation I was in at school and supported me throughout that time. He became someone who I went to for guidance around how to navigate playing in the boys' team and pushed me to face my fears when facing the quickest bowling, something I was not used to. I really appreciate everything he has done for me and I'm grateful for the time and effort he put in to make me the cricketer I am today.

Nick has had a huge impact on my development as a cricketer and person. He was a huge driver in facilitating my opportunity to join Rugby school and provided me with support away from cricket to help me with the transition into boarding school. Throughout my years at Rugby School Nick was an instrumental part of my development. He is hardworking and has a very good cricket brain which means that the sessions done with Nick have gone a long way towards my successes so far as a cricketer. Nick is a great coach and even better bloke and I couldn’t have asked for anyone better to guide me through my early teenage years.
Jacob Bethell, Warwickshire CCC, Franchise and England Cricketer
I have worked with Nick in a variety of capacities over the last eighteen years - he is one of the most outstanding sports coaches in Football and Cricket and has achieved success nationally in each. Nick has been instrumental in attracting and recruiting brilliant students to the educational institutions where I have been Headmaster. They are not only sportsmen and women, but excel in a variety of fields including music, art, drama and other co-curricular areas of educational institution life. This comes from his deep love of the performing arts, being a wonderful musician, dramatist and playing sport to elite levels, having also taught up to A level in each discipline. He is unique when it comes to having this skill set, and not forgetting he ensures the students are strong academically and are able to thrive in the educational institution of their choice. Peter Green, Principal Gordonstoun educational institution, Former Executive Headmaster of Rugby educational institution
Nick fundamentally understands the educational requirements of individuals, families and educational institution. His ability to build outstanding relationships with all three has been invaluable as a Housemaster in terms of, not only recruitment, but also enhancing the longer term support for each child's development. Saul Foulds, Housemaster
Nick was a fantastic support and help in guiding us through all aspects of the educational institution application process. At all stages, Nick was open and honest about the process as well as the opportunities at Rugby and further afield. Early on, Nick spent time with the family and Charlie to understand his needs and what environment would work best for him if he moved to Rugby educational institution. Having been in the state sector up to the age of 16, a key consideration was the transition to a boarding educational institution. Nick was in constant communication throughout the application process, which included entrance exams, sports assessments and interviews.
On arriving at Rugby, Nick was also able to ensure that Charlie's sporting ambitions were managed well alongside the commitment needed towards his academic studies. This helped Charlie adjust well to his new educational institution life. During the first year, Nick has been Charlie's coach on the cricket field, but has also supported and challenged Charlie from a mindset and sport psychology perspective, working on turning disappointments into learning scenarios as well as pushing Charlie's thinking further in the limits he has set himself. Nick is an asset to the educational institution and has a positive impact on everyone he interacts with and has a particular skill in making young people believe in themselves and strive to achieve more.

Nick has been a phenomenal professional within the teaching sector. We have always had fantastic dialogue when working with boys interested in Rugby educational institution from Aysgarth. In August 2023, Nick hosted an outstanding pre-season rugby camp for 65 boys from our educational institution with a friendly, calm and approachable manner. I could not recommend Nick highly enough for guiding and mentoring young people and families through the academic and sports scholarship process with the highest level of professional and excellent pastoral care when needed. His interests are always child-centred, and strives for the very best for every individual he works within a educational institution and sports settings. Alex Lane, Prep educational institution Director of Sport and Housemaster
Nick was the driving force behind me joining Ardingly College in year 7, where he then coached me for many years after. His enthusiasm and love for sports was a key factor in me instantly getting on with him off the pitch, and us working well together on it. His passion and knowledge gave a perfect balance to his sessions making them both enjoyable and valuable at the same time, meaning that after most sessions you had learnt something, improved your game and had fun doing so.
He also knew when to use laughter and fun and when to encourage me more directly to try and get the best out of me, which looking back on the time he coached me, showed that he had a great set of man management skills alongside his knowledge of sports. This inevitably meant that he could extract the best efforts and performances of those he coached and this was particularly noticeable as he brought great teams together by bonding them and coaching them well, allowing them to succeed more often than not, with many teams led by him at the college winning trophies and tournaments. Not only has he been a great coach for me and helped me massively to get where I am today, but he is still a great friend that is keen to stay in contact and support me in any way possible. This is why he was a great man to have coached and guided me for many important years in my progression in sports.
Tom Clark, Sussex CCC and England U19 Cricketer
Nick Tester has a rare gift in possessing an instinctive understanding for all three leading co-curricular areas in education: sport, drama and music. For the past eight years I have constantly marvelled at his passion for drawing links between these areas and seen how this has benefitted many students in improving their skills and techniques, helping them to succeed at very high levels. Most importantly, Nick genuinely cares for his students and goes the extra mile in his mentoring of them to make sure that they receive bespoke programmes, the very best coaching, extraordinary pastoral care and that they are able to access the most outstanding opportunities on their journeys to success in their chosen pathways.
Richard Tanner, Director of Music, Rugby School and professional conductor.
I am 100 percent behind education and people who dedicate their lives to teaching. Nick's enthusiasm and ambitions for kids knows no bounds and I want to support that.
Bradley Walsh, Actor and Televison Producer/Presenter
I had the pleasure of working with Nick Tester whilst I was a pupil at Rugby School. From the moment I reached out to Rugby, Nick was incredibly helpful in explaining the admissions and scholarship application process as well as highlighting the possibilities that would be afforded to me as a pupil there.
During my time at Rugby, Nick helped directly with my cricket technique, encouraging me to try new things and different approaches allowing me to discover my strengths and how best to utilise them. Mistakes weren’t discouraged, but rather were used to learn and improve. He was also a great mentor not only in terms of my approach to the game and to high level sport in general but also provided guidance in terms of my options after school. I would highly recommend Nick to others, not only as a coach, but as a mentor too.
Georgia Irving, Sunrisers Academy and Medicine undergraduate.
Although I have known Nick for only a short time, he has had a significant impact on me as both a cricketer and as a person. He is a coach who consistently maintains a positive outlook, always seeing the glass as half full, which is an invaluable perspective for athletes navigating the emotional ups and downs that sports often brings. Nick also goes out of his way to ensure that players are happy in all aspects of their lives, and provides a lot of support. In addition to him being a great coach, his sense of humour is thoroughly enjoyable!
Amu Surenkumar, Professional Sunrisers and England Women's U19s Cricketer
Our son worked with Nick having come from St Paul’s Cathedral school and has flourished under his expertise and reassuring nature, giving us no doubt that he always has our son’s best interests at heart. Harry quickly felt he could trust Nick to help him strike the balance between both his sport and music commitments, and we will forever be grateful to him.

I’ve had the pleasure to work with Nick in the cricket world for the last fifteen years, and have not seen any better youth coaches, mentors and practitioners than him. His knowledge of developing excellence and how to structure sessions, both on and off the pitch, allows youngsters and adults alike to develop and reach the best possible standard that they can. His infectious care and passion for people is great to behold, and any aspiring youngster would be sensible to use his knowledge to help their own programmes.
James Foster, Former England cricketer, England and Franchise Head Coach
Nick's knowledge and expertise in working with young players is as good as anyone I have seen in the game. His infectious personality and world class mentoring skills, coupled with his detailed knowledge of the game, have enabled youngsters to achieve their highest level of potential at Rugby School. Having been a County Captain and coach at County level, I cannot recommend Nick highly enough!
